I’ve often wondered if there are others out there that were of the same mind as me, that would agree that there has been a criminally low amount of Sontaran stories since Doctor Who returned in 2005. Sure, we usually get a sort of annual appearance from Dan Starkey’s Strax, but not a true Sontaran arc since Series 4’s two parter. If you find yourself wanting a bit more, Big Finish has you covered, dear readers!! The Seventh Doctor and Mel will face off with the Sontarans in Doctor Who: Terror of the Sontarans in September!
Here’s a brief tease for the audio adventure:
“Once it was a mining facility. Then later its corridors rang with screams generated by grotesque military experiments. However when the Doctor and Mel arrive on a hostile alien world after detecting a distress signal, the base they find themselves in is almost deserted. But not for long. Soon the Doctor’s old enemies, the Sontarans, have landed, and are searching for the remnants of their previous research team. Before long they uncover evidence of strange occurrences on the planet. Of madness and death. They are warriors bred for war, strong of spirit and unafraid of death. To fear the enemy is an act of betrayal. Nothing holds terror for the Sontarans. Until now…”
In addition, you can check out the great cover art at the beginning of the article. Something that’s enough to terrify a Sontaran? Color me interested! In addition to Sylvester McCoy and Bonnie Langford, the adventure will also feature the incredible Dan Starkey as the Sontarans. Starkey also gets a credit as the co-writer of the story. While Strax will not be in the story, Starkey’s involvement is enough to guarantee this audio will make it into my queue.
